After thread became a myth and legend the Holders saw the Dragonriders of Pern as useless and tension began to rise between them. Enough time passed that even some of the dragonriders began to doubt it existed, and only the most traditional riders knew it would return.
They were right, sort of. Thread fell but so did a new green substance known as Acid. The Dragonriders had died out and only Fort Weyr remained to fight the new and old enemy. Dragons took flight to the sky and seared them both away, and it seemed Acid did nothing until humans began to developed strange mutations and abilites.
Then at the next hatching new dragon colors appeared along with new abilities. The Fort Weyrwoman banished them, declaring them abominations and that she would kill them should she see them again. So they went to the Southern Continent followed by some Fort Weyr riders who pitied them or thought their Weyrwoman’s judgement was wrong and Skysong Weyr was founded.
Now a new clutch of eggs lays on the Skysong Hatching Grounds. Will there be new colors and abilites? The Weyrwoman in Fort Weyr has learnt of their survival. Will war between Weyrs break out? Will Acid have other effects on the life of Pern? Only time will tell….but one thing is for sure Pern is about to be plunged into turmoil.
